Write About Butts (Right About Butts) Music Video – Buttless Edition

The first version of this music video had butts in it. Twerking, mirroring, kaleidoscoping butts. I put a lot of work into adding those butts in as many creative ways as I could manage. I guess it’s the film school in me that made me feel some contrast to the performance shots was necessary. But the song is not about butts. It’s how I don’t write about butts even though butts have become the primary focus of our music industry, our daily lives, and our culture. This shortcoming prevents me from ever becoming rich or famous through my songwriting. It’s a lament, but not one about butts. It’s about my own stubbornness and my resistance to change. It’s about me.

I decided the butts didn’t belong. So I took them out. I also color corrected a handful of shots, removed the silent intro and tried to fix a sync that didn’t need fixing. That’s just how I work. Inefficiently and unprofitably.  Now the video is what it should be: a lone singer, at Orange Plaza Square Park (which is actually a circle), imitating Billy Corgan (because he also never sings about butts – not even close), and playing his unprofitable non-hit single to the delight of no one. And no butts whatsoever. Thank yous are due to @akmontilla who played the cajón and @mikeperaltamusic who shot what turned out to be the only footage that was truly needed.  Now, please enjoy “Write About Butts (Right About Butts)” the Buttless Edition.

DuckHands (Fitz and the Tatrums parody)

I made a song for a the Harris Football Podcast and they played it. The important thing to know is that Harris Football says that football players who drop passes have duck hands. I’ve never made a parody before. This is my first parody.

Songs in the Key of Funny #27 (starring me!)

Hey, sometimes I am not always the best at updating my website in a timely manner regarding my activities. That ends today. At least, the part about updating. A few Mondays ago, I appeared on a live podcast.

The podcast is called “Songs in the Key of Funny” and it is a play on words that I only got a few weeks later because the host’s name is Kristen Key. She and Shaun Fischer were great with their quick wits, guitar playing, and beatboxing, and I was present.

“Awkward with Evan” podcast (starring me)!

Evan Wecksell is a fellow musical comedian with a great idea for a podcast. It’s called “Awkward with Evan,” and on it, he interviews all of the Facebook friends he’s picked up from years of gigging. Now that includes me! I babbled muchly about “Squirrelmageddon,” meeting your heroes without knowing they are your heroes, how Colorado is the best, and new and exciting ways to create music videos. Give it a listen!

The Plan

Ok, everybody, here’s the plan. I’m going to make my new album available FOR THE FIRST TIME EVAR on Wednesday, September 28th at 8pm with a live, one-time-only, livestreaming radio show on Facebook. Here’s the event page: https://www.facebook.com/events/144538129481153/

Then I’ll make downloads, CDs, and some music videos available after that.

tl;dr: All that’s left to do is to listen.
