GoTopless Day 2010 “Coverage”

GoTopless Day is an annual event to protest the laws that deny women the right to go bare-chested in public. To protest, the women go topless… sweet. I was invited to the Venice Beach, CA demonstration to perform my song, “Coppin’ a Feel.” Videos and pictures abound below.

This is my favorite shot. I call it, "Topless Girls vs. Bible Bashing Christian Zealots

The argument FOR toplessness is on the right and the argument AGAINST on the left.

Kat Kaplan is a rapper and protester and, yes, she totally was using her own portrait for pasties.

Some said the tape showed lack of commitment. I say it still showed plenty of breastmeat.

This girl is named Veronique. She has very nice eyes and doesn't care who sees them.

Police thought it would be best if this guy stopped screaming his Vietnam-related boob-hatred.

This is another favorite of mine. I call this one BIG rack vs. BIGotry. This guy never masturbates.

I call this one "Signage + Boobage." My spellchecker calls bullshit both words. Digging the leopard print.

Lara Terstenjak (in the white hat) coordinated the perv-formers including yours truly.

Let's be perfectly clear as to why this guy was in attendance. He loves boobs.

Distracted by that logo? Stay focused! It's the logo of the Raelian Movement. Look it up... later.

You know what everyone is wearing with their sun hats this season? Tits. That's what.

...and how is everyone accessorizing their titties this season? With devil horns. That's how.

Nadine Gary is the organizer of GoTopless Day 2010. She doesn't mess around.

What is this? This is something else I saw on Venice Beach. A two-headed turtle.

Because I knew you wouldn't fucking believe me, another shot of the two-headed turtle.

This young lady works at the same Venice Beach Freakshow where the two-headed turtle works.

This girl tried to put bunny ears on me, but it didn't work, because I've got Photoshop.

'The empresses have no clothes,' yelled out bystanders, but no one listened.

The Sun is Gonna Blow Up (Live)

Here’s a new video I’m putting up on my video page to change my image, since really, I am more of a rockin’ scientist. This song will be on a future album… if there is a future.

Most Excellent Colorado Adventure

My trip home to Colorado was awesome. I saw lots of friends and family, and Emily and I did all kinds of things that you can’t do in Los Angeles, such as:

Friday
We breathed clean air, drank tap water without fear, drove 85 mph, merged at an appropriate speed, drove to Golden in the rain, beheld a skyline with fog instead of smog, watched Ubaldo Jimenez beat the Blue Jays 5-3 in a rain-shortened 6-inning game, and I stole an abandoned beer in the Sandlot Brewery.

Saturday
We napped hard, saw a white guy mowing his own lawn, saw grass in the first place, had some sushi that wasn’t as good as the sushi in L.A., saw some buffalo and then remorselessly ate a Buffalo Burger at Turley’s in Boulder.

Sunday
Drove on a highway for 40+ miles without stopping, toured the Anheuser Busch production facility in Fort Collins, saw some Clydesdale horses, drank some brews, ate a Buffalo Burger with Artichoke Dip on it, drank a flight of beers at Coopersmith’s Brewery, went through my childhood belongings and scored a Denver Broncos Super Bowl Champions T-shirt, and swerved to avoid some yahoo driving on the wrong side of the road.

Monday
We ate dinner at Casa Bonita, saw “pirates” and “gunfighters” fall into a pool, braved Black Bart’s Cave (just me), toured the Asgard Entertainment facility in Denver, sat through some painful stand-up comedy (just kidding, plenty of that in L.A.), and I got to be a special touring guest at the Lion’s Lair.

Tuesday
We walked around the haunted Stanley Hotel, inspiration for The Shining and shooting locale for Dumb and Dumber, drove through Rocky Mountain National Park, took mountain pictures two miles above sea level, saw elk, big horned sheep and prairie dogs, saw the scary blazing-eye Bronco statue at Denver International Airport, and I ate frozen custard from Good Times.

Emily is an awesome picture taker, so here are the photo highlights:

The skyline from Coors Field

The Rockies won 5-3 and everyone got soaked

Shileikis' impression of South Park's Kenny

This is where the beer comes from

Casa Bonita, Casa Bonita! Just like I remember

This is where horror comes from

Prairie Dog Commando is hungry for grass

This is what Earth looks like if you don't fuck it up.

I like it up there. It's easier to think.

I’m a Negligent Videographer when I’m in the Show

Here’s a few snippets of video from when I happened to have my camera rolling at the CD Release show. Now that I get to see how awesome these guys were, I wish I’d filmed the whole show. If you missed the show, have some fun with this, but only a snippet.

CD Release Party

I am pleased as punch to announce that my new album, American Chipfunk will be getting a CD release party thrown in its honor.  None of my previous works have had a party, so I’m really excited for this. The party is a really big deal for me, so it would mean a lot to me to have everyone’s support as I nervously birth this thing of mine into the world. If you come, you can skip my wedding and funeral and I will still always remember that time you came to my CD release party.

There will be a (not brutally long) show with performances by a hand-picked (by me!) roster of L.A.’s most talented musicians and hilarious comedians. I’ll perform too. I guess that would be appropriate. There is NO cover charge, NO drink minimums and NO drink maximums, so get as drunk as you like. But not too drunk, oh, oh, because you’ll want to remember this lineup of young, good-looking people:

What: American Chipfunk CD Release Party
When: June 6, 2010 @ 6pm (PST)
Where: Brennan’s Pub, 4089 Lincoln Blvd., Marina del Rey, CA 90292
How much?: It’s a FREE show, no admission, no cover, no drink minimum

This will be your first chance to get the album which includes the only studio recordings of “Coppin’ a Feel,” “Drunk Girls,” and “Welcome to the Spank Bank” performed by a full band. I’m really proud of this album. It also has a couple of surprises that no one has heard before, and the drums and bass guitar are all super-funky. It’s like I found the funk at the bottom of the ocean and milked it.

I hope to see you all at the party! Feel free to RSVP on the Facebook invite:
